To the uninitiated, the bizarre art of “ring-shaming” involves social media users criticising and ridiculing strangers’ engagement or wedding rings.

However, one woman took the craze to a new level by ring-shaming her own engagement ring.

The woman in question posted the following on Facebook: “Found this in the BF’s nightstand. Not a fan. Please roast and then tell me how to tactfully say no you need to go get something different”.

The would-be fiancé came in for heavy criticism as many deemed her actions to be shallow.

Briefly.co.za has gathered that the group of users religiously post pictures of their own rings for a self-roast every Friday.

Some of the responders made very valid points citing the high costs involved in purchasing rings and the short life-span of engagement rings.

Another social media user criticised the group as a whole by saying, "Someone posts a ring that's really nice and clearly worth a lot saying, 'lol look what my boyfriend got me he's so cheap' and then everyone adopts that mentality and it just becomes a nasty pit of narcissism and hatred."

One comment seemingly cut to the core of the issue when she stated: "You could literally give me an onion ring and I would marry your a** if I was truly in love with you. What's wrong with some entitled people?"
