Just when South Africa thought Patricia de Lille and the DA buried the hatchet, De Lille revealed she has laid charges of fraud against a group of senior DA members.
De Lille said in a statement the charge related to a post being shared on social media, in which the members are defaming her. It's been reported that the former mayor of Cape Town claims the post was forged.
It's believed the post alleges to be from South Africa's Auditor General.
The charges have been laid against Henk Hugo, Shehana Kajee, Mike Waters and Bronwynne Engelbrecht, Daily Sun reported.
The Independent Online also reported that De Lille said the issue is clear.
She told the media that the members helped to create and share a fake Chapter 9 insitution document.
According to De Lille, the Auditor General's office confirmed it's false.
De Lille asked the police to investigate the evidence before it.
“I thus appeal to the South African Police Services to evaluate the evidence I am submitting and to thoroughly investigate and pursue these fraud charges and take the necessary action to protect our democratic institutions.”
Last week, Briefly.co.za reported that De Lille officially turned her back on the Democratic Alliance.
Her relationship with the DA has been strained and her resignation was no shock.
De Lille made the announcement that she will be stepping down as mayor on 31 October.
