This year marks the 25th anniversary of Chris Hani’s death and a video clip was shared on social media on Wednesday as a reminder of what he stood for.
While serving the SA Communist Party, Hani made a public address where he passionately shared the political party’s demands for the nation.
Twitter user, @KatlehoMK, shared a short video clip which shows Hani starting off by stating, “We are making no apologies so that our people can have access to the land.”
The South African icon then goes on to add that education and medical care should be free and compulsory.
Hani was a freedom fighter who polarised opinion.
He had his reservations on whether the transition from apartheid to the proposed democracy would yield true economic freedom for the masses.
He was famously quoted as saying that he feared the liberators would emerge as elitists after the struggle.
Many South Africans agree with those sentiments as the political gravy train has been well documented over the years.
Tweeps shared in commemorating Hani and some feel our current leadership pale in comparison to his legacy.
There are a few though who vocalised their dissatisfaction with Hani due to some of his radical beliefs.
He was assassinated outside his home in April 1993.
