A brilliant 13-year-old girl from Malamulele in Limpopo will represent South Africa at the 2018 African Spelling Bee Competition.
Hlulani Baloyi emerged tops at the recent Mzansi Spelling Bee Competition, earning her the sole ticket, SowetanLIVE reports.
The annual contest will be held later in November in Nairobi, Kenya. It will pit Hlulani against the best young "spelling bees" in Africa.
Hlulani is a Grade 7 learner at Magangeni Primary School. She makes sure to practise daily to perfect her spelling ability, Briefly.co.za gathered.
She said she loves reading and her favourite book is the famous Long Walk to Freedom by the late former President Nelson Mandela. Fittingly, he favourite word is "freedom."
Hlulani thanked her school and its teachers for their support. She also expressed gratitude to sponsors who have made her trip to Kenya possible.
Naturally, the young learner said she is nervous about the contest, but is looking forward to it:
I am a little bit nervous. I've researched on who I will be competing against and I'm excited to meet people from different cultures and languages and making new friends.
