Man hailed a hero after getting shot while trying to stop robbery

An unidentified man is seen in a viral video bravely confronting an armed robber in a bid to stop a robbery in Jeppe, Johannesburg.

The man and another person, a woman aged 31, got shot in the process, News24 reports. The incident happened at a store on 26 October and was captured by a CCTV camera.

The video has been shared widely on social media and can be viewed below. (Warning: the video may be upsetting for some viewers.)

Several suspects are seen in the footage entering the store. One of them went to the cashier and another brandished a gun at a lady sitting across.

Moments later, a man entered the store, greeted the lady, and then got into a scuffle with the suspect who had the gun.

The scuffle quickly escalated, resulting in shots being fired. A local police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, told News24 that they are conducting further investigations.

Mbele added that both victims were taken to hospital and have since been discharged. However, police have made no arrests yet.
