A truck driver heroically pulled over his truck to the safety lane of the busy N4 highway while having a heart attack recently.
55-year-old Johan Buys was sadly found dead in his truck along the N4 towards Bronkhorstspruit, just outside Pretoria, on 9 November.
News24 reports that Johan had made sure to safely park the truck and put it on neutral. The engine was still running when he was found.
Johan's thoughtful act, made while he was in pain, kept other motorists safe by greatly reducing the risk of potential accidents.
A Facebook post by SA Long-Distance Truckers revealed the heroic driver passed away just a day after his birthday.
Johan's daughter, Zena, told News24 that her dad had always put the welfare of other motorists at the top of his mind:
My dad promised my mom... that anytime, it doesn't matter where it is, when he's not feeling well, he needs to pull over. And that is what he did. That is my dad.
Social media users paid tribute to Johan for his heroism and expressed their condolences to his family.
