Sharon Spink, who hails from Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire, have been breastfeeding her daughter for almost a decade before she "naturally" weaned at the age of nine.

According to the mother of four, she saw nothing wrong with breastfeeding her daughter for all those years, adding it "cemented their bond" and made their relationship stronger.

Briefly.co.za learned Spink believed in natural weaning- which simply means the child decides when to stop drinking from their mother's breast.

However, a lot of social media users did not share Spink's view on breastfeeding a child until they were nine and she received a lot of backlash online. From calling Spink a weirdo to dubbing her actions as sexual abuse- social media users were not impressed with her story.

Instagram user Lizabeth Coppock wrote: "I’m all for breastfeeding and I even support it in public (that’s what breasts were designed for people!!!) but breastfeeding til 9 is not normal or natural or sane or (in my own opinion!) healthy for a child. The chick will have her period soon and still can’t drink milk from a cup????"

Spink has not paid any attention to the haters and despite the backlash she wants to break the stigma surrounding breastfeeding older kids. She also admitted she was going to miss breastfeeding her daughter.
