Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi on Monday, November 12, received an award as Spanish La Liga Most Valuable Player for the 2017/18 season.

The Argentine football star was also given an award for the 34 goals he scored last season for Barcelona which helped them to win the Spanish La Liga title.

Messi received the award from MARCA director Juan Ignacio Gallardo for his status as top scorer last season in Spain.

"It's good that the League is more competitive than ever, nothing is easy, anyone can beat anyone and I hope it continues like that for some time.

"I am always more interested in the importance that goals have rather than how good they look,'' Lionel Messi explained.

Lionel Messi has been impressive again this season for Barcelona in all competitions as the Catalans stay top of the La Liga standings with 24 points after 12 games played so far.

Meanwhile, La Liga president Javier Tebas also attended the event and spoke about how he will continue to promote the League globally.

Earlier, it was reported how Argentina FA made it clear that they will not give any player the No 10 jersey in their hopes of convincing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to make a return to international duty.

Lionel Messi is yet to announce his international retirement but the forward has told the FA that he wants to be excused from playing for the national team for the rest of this year.
