- He's originally from Ghana and has lived in South Africa for three years
A distraught man in Johannesburg says that his girlfriend left him because he doesn't have any money.
The man, whose name is Prince, shared his story on Humans of New York's Facebook page on Monday, Briefly.co.za gathered.
He began by revealing that he's originally from Ghana He sold phones for a living there, but when it didn't work out, he decided to try his luck in South Africa.
He started a tailoring business because he knew how to sew. However, things still didn't work out:
But things are even worse than before. I can stand here all day and not get a single customer. I’ve been at it for three years, and I don’t even know why I’m still making an effort.
He lamented that he has nothing and consequently, he can't build a house, get married, and start a family.
Prince recalled that he recently fell in love with a woman who sells food near his business. They dated for a while, but when she came to visit him at his house, she was apparently disappointed.
This is because he didn't have much, not even a radio or TV set. He said she pretended that she didn't mind. However, she broke off their relationship two weeks later. Prince said:
She never said it was because I don’t have money. But it’s because I don’t have money. Sometimes I think I should just kill myself.
The distraught man's story touched the hearts of many readers and triggered more that 1,000 comments. Some even offered to support his business. Ashleigh Trotter wrote:
Any way of contacting him? I'm an Australian who goes back to South Africa once, sometimes twice a year to see my family that live there. I'd love to place an order that I can pick up later in December once I'm there. Would love to get in contact.
In a generous gesture, Humans of New York announced:
Prince is being given $1500 from the HONY Patreon to get furniture for his home, or to use however else he sees fit.
