On Monday, Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba took to social media to show off his first citizen's arrest- a man with several cow heads in a trolley.

"I have just personally stopped this illegally act in our city. How do we allow meat trading like this? I am waiting for @AsktheChiefJMPD to come and attend before we experience a breakdown of unknown diseases in our @CityofJoburgZA," he wrote in one post.

Briefly.co.za gathered in another post, Mashaba said it was his first citizen's arrest and he was restoring the Rule of Law in the city.

However, instead of praising the mayor, South Africans were left fuming over the post. Tweeps accused Mashaba, who is also an entrepreneur, of robbing the man of his livelihood.

Social media user @Essau_EM83 commented: "Help the man set up a proper business, cant be proud to arrest a black who knows how meat business operates and how it is regulated. He is making ends meet by not robbing anyone. Just help Mayor."
