- Land expropriation is basically a done deal, as the ANC and EFF have the number of votes they need to allow for an amendment to the Constitution
- The amendment will make it possible to expropriate land without compensation
- Only a few technicalities remain to be taken care of
The amendment to the Constitution to enable expropriation without compensation is now a done deal.
The ANC and EFF, along with the support of the NFP and UDM, supported the decision on Tuesday, 13 November. They have the necessary numbers.
All that needs to happen now is a number of parliamentary steps that need to be followed, as reported by The Daily Maverick.
First, an official discussion of the committee's report will take place and then it will be adopted.
After the adoption of the report, it will be decided how to draft the amendment to the Constitution.
But with these technicalities aside, the amendment is a done deal.
