A great-great-great-grandma from Cape Town turned 106 recently and was thrown a big bash to celebrate the momentous occasion.
Catherine Blugenhout received an unexpected birthday surprise on Sunday when her pastor and neighbour arranged a big birthday party for her.
The Elsies River resident and her 40 guests were served a 3-course meal at the Light of God Community Outreach Ministry.
The venue was draped in bright purple and pink décor.
The Voice reported that Pastor Vivian Meyer organized the celebration to honour Catherine and a milestone that very few are able to achieve.
Meyer said, “Since I moved into the area 12 years ago, I have come to know and love ouma Catherine. She is an extremely humble person and by having this party for her is to show appreciation to her.”
Catherine boasts an incredible lineage.
Eight of her 10 children are still alive and in good health.
At her age, grandchildren are inevitable but Catherine has 45 of them.
Few people are able to boast any great-grandchildren but she additionally has a staggering 25 great-grandchildren.
Incredibly, she also has 20 great-great-grandchildren as well as 2 great-great-great-grandchildren.
She has been well cared for by her daughter, Sophie Blugenhout.
Sophie says that Arthritis is the only chronic condition her mother suffers from and is kept healthy by God’s grace.
Beverley van Reenen, the local ward councillor, was also in attendance and wished Catherine a happy birthday and many more years of good health.
