Ed Bowen and Nicola Boraston were taking a leisurely walk home when disaster struck.
A speeding car struck the pavement and came hurtling toward them.
Bowen instinctively pushed his girlfriend, Nicola, out of harm’s way but the vehicle smashed into him, with his pelvis crushed in the process.
The 33-year-old from Bristol in England, was deemed clinically dead soon after but was then resuscitated by paramedics.
Unfortunately, his leg couldn’t be saved following a gruelling medical operation.
Bristol Live reported that the brave Englishman was treated for 2 weeks in intensive care.
Referring to the incident, Bowen reveals he recalls the impact but nothing thereafter.
Bowen’s friends have set up a crowdfunding initiative where donations have been collected.
The objective is to ease the couple’s financial burdens as Bowen would be unable to work for months.
Briefly.co.za understands the “go fund me” webpage has ensured collections amounting to in excess of R1,49 million.
The road to recovery will be a long and challenging one but thanks to his friends, Bowen’s bank account will be smiling.
