Checkers under fire after a mouse was spotted in the sweets aisle

Checkers have come under fire after photos showed a mouse chilling in one store's sweets aisle. More pics showed the same store also selling old food.

On Monday, a social media user, who was simply identified as Nomahlubi, took to Twitter to share shocking photos of a Checkers store.

"@CheckersSA my friend went to get food at your store in Glen Marais, Kempton Park and this is what happened. Please assist," she captioned the photos.

Briefly.co.za gathered the photos showed mold forming on a bun and a mouse hanging out between chocolates in the sweets aisle.

Checkers has since responded to the photos, adding they place value on hygiene and would therefore sort out the issue.

"Hi Yonela, food safety and hygiene are non-negotiable in our business. We will address this with our store immediately. Please ask your friend to DM us her contact details so we can get in touch. This is definitely not the quality we want to offer our customers," Checkers' response read.

However, tweeps were shocked and disgusted by the photos One tweep even suggested she also saw mice at a Checkers store.
