Whether or not white people belong in South Africa has been a hot topic for many years. Till this day, many people call whites settlers, regardless if SA was their birth place or not.

However, one man expressed his opinion of white people in SA on Twitter. Roets, who acts as the deputy of the lobby group, wrote that 'boers' were African.

Needless to say, his statement sparked quite the debate on Twitter and South Africans were left divided on the subject.

Some openly disagreed with Roets, adding whites were European until it no longer fitted them.

Social media user @papi107_082 quoted Flo Letoaba, writing: "When Boers didn't want us to sit on their Benches or use their toilets they were European, Now that they want to keep the land they stole from us they are African."

Some tweeps agreed with Roets, saying because they were born in SA, an African land, boers are also regarded as such.
