A bus driver went above and beyond the call of duty for a stranger on a chilly winter’s day and may have changed his life for good.
Natalie Barnes, a bus driver from Milwaukee in America, was in the middle of her shift when she saw a familiar face board her bus.
The man, known as Richard, asked Natalie if he could stay on board through the night as he had nowhere else to go.
Conditions were extremely cold outside and Natalie immediately agreed to help the desperate man.
Natalie told the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS), “At some point in our lives, everybody needs help. I wanted to do what I could to help Richard in some way.”
As other commuters came and went, the pair enjoyed some lengthy conversation.
Richard revealed he had been homeless for a week after being evicted.
Briefly.co.za understands the video of their touching encounter has received more than 100 000 views on Facebook.
The kind-hearted driver even bought Richard a meal during a pit-stop. However, this is not where her generosity ended.
Realising the evening drive was just a temporary fix, she called a contact working for Community Advocates.
The Wisconsin based agency is the biggest human needs organisation within the state.
Thanks to her, Richard was placed at the Autumn West Safe Haven to ensure he has a roof over his head.
The MCTS shared that this was not an isolated incident in terms of Natalie’s goodwill.
She regularly packs in extra sandwiches for hungry passengers and has been commended by her employer on 3 separate occasions during her 3 year tenure.
