- The UCT VC was officiating a formal event and wore a top with a plunging neckline

Twitter users have rushed to the defence of Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng over criticism that she wore "inappropriate" attire at a formal event.
One tweep, Karin Morrow, posted a photo of the University of Cape Town Vice-Chancellor at the event. The prof wore a top with a plunging neckline.
Karin wasn't too impressed with it and wrote, "Noooo.... this is NOT appropriate attire for the VC of a university to wear to an academic evening (presenting new Profs #UCT).
When a follower questioned why she thought it was inappropriate, Karin cited the plunging neckline.
She received some support from some tweeps who shared her view.
However, an overwhelming number of Twitter users rushed to the VC's defence, arguing that there's nothing inappropriate about her attire.
One argued that appropriateness is often subjective and in any case, it doesn't have an impact on job performance.
Others blasted Karin for being a "self-appointed fashion police."
Other Twitter users thought Prof Phakeng actually looked stunning in her outfit.
