Professor Thuli Madonsela has received yet another prestigious award - the German Great Order of Merit.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier bestowed the honour on the former Public Protector for her contribution to South Africa's democracy.
The ceremony took place during a reception at the German ambassador to South Africa's residence in Cape Town on Tuesday, Citizen.co.za reports.
Prof Madonsela earlier shared a selfie on Twitter while on the way to receive the award. She captioned it, "On the way to receiving another unexpected award. #Gratitude."
Her seminal report, State of Capture, recommended the State Capture Inquiry that's currently underway. She currently serves as Chair of Social Justice at Stellenbosch University.
South Africans on social media congratulated Prof Madonsela for receiving the honour, Briefly.co.za gathered. Her tweet has racked up close to 3,000 likes so far.
President Steinmeier departed South Africa on Wednesday after completing a three-day state visit. President Cyril Ramaphosa hosted him and the two held bilateral talks.
