Luka Modric has enjoyed a stellar year and is a favourite to scoop the Ballon d’Or award but Edinson Cavani is not convinced.
The Ballon d’Or award crowns the best player in the world for the calendar year.
The award has been bossed by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the past decade, with each winning it 5 times.
Briefly.co.za understands that this could be the first time since 2007 that a new winner will be named and Modric looks to have the edge.
The midfield maestro guided Real Madrid to a 3rd consecutive UEFA Champions League title earlier this year.
He was also instrumental in leading Croatia to the finals of the World Cup – their best ever finish.
However, Edinson Cavani doesn’t feel the Croatian would be a deserved winner.
RMC reported that the Uruguay striker deems 1 of the World Cup winning French players to be more eligible.
Cavani feels Raphael Varane, Antoine Griezmann or Kylian Mbappe should be in the running due to their exploits at the World Cup a few months ago.
He went on to explain that Modric had an excellent season but that Varane scooped not only the Champions League, but the World Cup as well.
