The Citizen News shared a video earlier on 22 October, which showed Bloemfontein locals helping themselves to frozen chicken after a truck overturned.

Briefly.co.za gathered the incident took place near Bloemfontein and police arrived at the scene shortly after.

However, the cops were seen on the video standing idly by as the locals helped themselves. The footage left social media users divided, with some slamming the cops for not acting against the looters.

Marcel Adriaanse commented: "and our fantastic police force does absolutely nothing..."
Marina Van Rensburg added: "Police are just standing by........thinking...don't know what"
Lewis Terry Moyo wrote: "The police are to protect property but they are watching."

Others said the truck's load is probably insured and there is no harm in the hungry people helping themselves instead of all the chicken going to waste in the sun.

Carol Peyper Lourens wrote: "I would rather have the hungry eat it then seeing it thrown away because it rotts in the sun.? Its spoiled anyway. So early Christmas."
Jean Siddall commented: "The load will be insured so let them have it."
