A recent move by the DA to make a degree compulsory for the position of Chief Whip has left John Steenhuisen in an awkward position and opened up the party to accusations of “White Privilege”.

This move came in a proposal to the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers and, if considered could see Steenhuisen demoted to a “backbencher” after the 2019 elections.

The Democratic Alliance’s caucus in the KZN legislature has proposed that only an MP with a university degree be considered for the position of chief whip.

Steenhuisen’s highest qualification is apparently matric and this has caught the attention of the EFF.

Brought to everyone's attention by a recent Sunday Times article the news surprised the Economic Freedom Fighters spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi who took to Twitter to voice his dismay.

Ndlozi had reportedly been surprised that Steenhuisen would not even meet his own party, the Economic Freedom Fighter’s, requirement’s to become a public officer.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi had responded saying, “If it were a black leader, this article would have even published his Matric results. So as to tarnish his standing as a chief whip for a serious lawmaking institution like parliament #whiteprivilege.”

John Steenhuisen has lashed out at Ndlozi’s comment’s saying “Your qualifications have obviously equipped you and your journeymen well for rational debate (beating up journalists) and VBS looting. I would rather be degree-less and honest than qualified and dishonest like you.”

This response has slid off of the back of the EFF spokesperson who responded by saying “Witness a meltdown of an under-educated white man. White masculinity always posits itself as the moral superior and depends so much on portraying blacks as guilty before proven so. But think how many blacks out there are led by an under-educated white boy with an exaggerated salary?”
