Black First Land First ( BLF) believes that land expropriation without compensation is a scam, but wants to stop AfriForum’s attempts to halt it.

BLF has announced their intention to attempt stopping AfriForum from approaching the high court. AfriForum intends to suspend the adoption of a report by the Constitutional Review Committee, recommending that the constitution should be amended to allow for expropriation without compensation.

AfriForum wants to see the committee’s decision reversed as soon as possible but parliament revealed on Sunday that it has filed an answering affidavit, asking the court to dismiss AfriForum’s application from the court roll with punitive costs.

Black First Land First has a complicated stance on the matter. Whilst they do not want AfriForum to succeed in their mission, they do not set place much value in the move to allow for Land Reform.

The movement feels that the ANC, as well as the EFF, have only supported land expropriation without compensation in an attempt to secure votes for the upcoming elections. They do not feel like either party have any real intention of following through with the policy.

Black First Land First has released a statement saying that “AfriForum is a criminal, racist organisation which wants to stop black people from getting back the land that was stolen by the colonial settlers. The political roadshow on land expropriation was nothing more than a lie to deceive black people into believing that they will get land hence they must vote for the lying African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the 2019 general election.”

The statement revealed that the BLF feels that AfriForum, the ANC as well as the EFF are all unified in their attempts to hinder land expropriation.

“Together with the ANC and EFF, AfriForum will work hard to ensure there is no land expropriation without compensation for blacks – only more promises in exchange for their votes in 2019 general election.”

BLF went on to say: “The content of the ANC-EFF parliamentary motion does not mean the return without compensation of all land to the black majority. It means blacks will get reject, unproductive land while whites retain all the productive land.”

The reason behind the parties decision to oppose AfriForum, if it does not believe the move to legalise expropriation is genuine, is not clear.

The BLF party also believes that the roadshow to hear the opinions of ordinary South Africans on land expropriation was a sham. They went on to say that the roadshow saw the ANC and the EFF having “given the racist AfriForum ammunition to fight the landless”.
