World-famous TV icon, Oprah Winfrey, suffered a great loss on one of America's most famous holidays, Thanksgiving. Oprah's mother, Vernita Lee, passed away in her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Oprah has since thanked everyone for their kind words and condolences.
Oprah's family informed the media in a statement on 22 November that her mother, Vernita Lee, had passed away in her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
The cause of death was not revealed.
As reported on by celebrity.nine.com.au, Oprah's mother was 83 at the time of her death and she has since been laid to rest during a private funeral.
Vernita was a housekeeper for most of her life and didn't raise Oprah - she gave her up for adoption.
However, the two reconnected later in life and became very close.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Vernita is survived by Oprah and her other daughter, Patricia Amanda Faye Lee, as well as 4 grandchildren.
