This year has been a year where people stood up against gender-based violence. Now, teen activist Zulaikha Patel has turned her focus on the issue as well.
Patel, who made headlines in 2016 after she protested against racism in her school, would reportedly lead a naked protest against gender-based violence, The Sowetan reported.
The march would take place on Friday outside the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, Briefly.co.za learned.
Patel said the motivation behind the silent protest is the suicide of a young girl, who was sexually assaulted, following a trial.
The 16-year-old added the protesters would no be completely naked but they would be sitting down with boards between their legs. Patel said she expects about 20 women to join her.
She posted a photo on her Instagram account as an example.
"I am naked and still not asking for it," the board read in the photo.
The young activist has been vocal about sexual abuse on social media recently. In one of her Instagram post she is seen wearing a lacey top, along with the caption that reinforces the ideal that only women have a right to their own bodies.
"Her body is her sacred temple and hers only," the post read.
