If there is on character in Isidingo that no one messes with, it is Nina Zamdela. So, when the wicked witch of the Deep went blind, viewers were shook.
We all knew that there were going to be repercussions for her actions, but going blind, we never expected that. Lincoln really went all the way this time.
The role of Nina is played by actress Khabonina Qubeka. She has done an outstanding job playing Nina as a blind woman. Viewers have been extremely impressed by her skill. You could swear that she was actually blind.
Aside from giving her a chance to blow us away with her mad acting skills, there is another reason that the Isidingo play writers made Nina blind, according to a blog post by khabodacious.co.za.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Khabonina Qubeka was six months pregnant at the time when the new storyline was being written. “I knew that an exit storyline was inevitable,” she said, so they found a way to annihilate the infamous Nina.
“I wanted, in fact, I needed a damning exit,” Khabonina said.
Speaking to her head writer Mr David Gordon, Khabonina stated that she did not want to go our quietly, she needed to make a grand exit. So, making Nina blind was how they did it.
The talented actress was offered assistance when shooting the blind scenes, but she chose to ‘shoot the scenes raw, no dark glasses, no prosthetics’.
Khabonina has really blown us away with her talent. Nina is a character that everybody hates, but she is also a character that nobody can imagine Isidingo without.
The 37-year-old became a mother for the first time on the second of October. She kept her pregnancy a secrete right up until the day she gave birth. Her baby girl has changed her world forever.
