A happily married American couple recently shared how their romance started via direct messages (DMs) on Twitter.

Keanon, who uses @KeanonNoKel as his Twitter handle, shared a screenshot of his very first DM with his now-wife Kailar.

He also posted photos of their wedding along with the caption, "When the DM slide was HELLA successful."

Kailar in turn retweeted her hubby's tweet with the comment, "I tried to play hard to get but still said "I DO" though. #latenightspecial. #hiswifey."

Keanon revealed in subsequent tweets that he and Kailar have been together for eight years now. They met during their undergraduate studies, Briefly.co.za gathered.

The heartwarming story has gone viral, racking up close to 24,000 likes and well over 6,100 retweets so far.

Tweeps called it "beautiful" and wished the couple well.
