- Thembi Kgatlana has propelled Banyana Banyana into the Women's World Cup
- Her mom, Koko Kgatlana, gushed about her daughter's talent in a recent interview
- She was glad she didn't succeed in persuading Thembi to give up football
Koko Kgatlana, the proud mom of Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana, is relieved that Thembi kept playing soccer against her wishes.
Speaking to Sowetan, Koko said she tried to discourage Thembi from playing soccer because she preferred athletics.
However, the allure of soccer was too strong for Thembi to ignore. She is now the talk of Mzansi after propelling Banyana Banyana to the 2019 Women's World Cup, which will be in France.
Koko gushed about her daughter's immense talent:
I am beyond proud of her. We thank God for her talent. She has always been humble, respectful. She does her talking with her boots. I am glad the girls are getting the support they deserve.
She said soccer is in Thembi's genes because she inherited her talents from her father, who also played the sport.
Koko added that the entire family will be cheering on Thembi and Banyana Banyana as they take on Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Saturday.
Thembi, 22, also plays for US team Houston Dash and is an avid fan of Cape Town FC. Meanwhile, she took to Twitter yesterday to appreciate her mom's praise of her, Briefly.co.za gathered.
