One of the summer's most anticipated events is almost here. Cassper Nyovest's #FillUpMosesMabhida concert takes place on 1 December, and the artist gets to use the iconic stadium for free.
Just before South Africans are set to enjoy Cassper Nyovest's #FillUpMosesMabhida concert, the eThekwini Municipality decided to give him the use of the stadium for mahala.
How cool is that?
Durban will welcome fans from all over the country and decided to give Cassper free use of its iconic stadium, as reported on by IOL News.
Deputy City Manager of Economic Development and Planning, Phillip Sithole, said the decision is based on marketing of the venue.
The decision is based on the fact that we are marketing the venue. We are to keep it busy and local informal traders, businesses and car guards will also benefit from this event. We were happy with their proposal because it speaks to tourism. We had numerous meetings with them to ensure that local businesses benefited from the event.
This comes after some controversial rumours that were floating around that Durban was planning on giving Cassper a whopping R56 million in contribution towards the concert.
When the rumours first showed its head, the Federation For Radical Economic Transformation and one of its affiliates Amadelangokubona Business Forum took on Durban city.
They wanted to know why the city would give so much money to Cassper when other event organisers and artists were never given such huge amounts.
Briefly.co.za gathered that these rumours were never backed by any evidence, and is taken as inaccurate. Apparently, there was a proposal, but the decision was never officially made.
