- Reports of muggings after the Global Citizen Festival have flooded social media
- The incidents happened at Sasol garage near FNB stadium
- Many witnesses say SAPS officers were nowhere to be seen and thugs therefore freely attacked people
While the Global Citizen Festival went off largely without a hitch yesterday, there have been several reports of muggings after it ended.
Witnesses took to social media to share how chaotic scenes unfolded at a Sasol garage outside FNB stadium, Briefly.co.za gathered. Many revellers were waiting at the garage for transport to get home.
One witness, Namhla R., said she saw a woman fighting off a man who was mugging her. She also saw two girls screaming for help because they felt unsafe.
All the while, Namhla said, South African Police Service (SAPS) was nowhere to be found. She added that the police absence made the revellers, especially women, feel vulnerable.
Imaan Moosa also narrated how a man grabbed her friend's phone as they waited for someone to pick them up from the garage.
She said the muggers were even pulling knives and guns on the defenceless revellers.
Another witness, Shantie Khosa, also lamented the lack of visible policing and security after the concert.
A concerned mother said her daughter was among those who were mugged at the garage.
