A viral video shows a traffic police officer apparently napping while on speed trapping duty in the Free State province.

salivemag.com shared the video on its website recently, Briefly.co.za learned. It's unclear when and where exactly in the province the incident happened.

A motorist who had been pulled over reportedly took the video and posted it on social media. The unnamed officer is seen sitting fast asleep on the edge of the car's boot.

The motorist also zoomed in on the car's registration disk, apparently to get its details. It's unclear if there has been any reaction from police authorities so far.

Social media users have expressed mixed views about the footage. Some were outraged at the cop for sleeping on duty, while others took a more empathetic approach.
