Banyana Banyana are smiling all the way to the bank as they netted a whopping R2.4 million bonus on Sunday.
The South African Football Association (SAFA) agreed to the incentive structure and honoured their agreement following the team’s recent exploits.
It has been a momentous period for Banyana as the ladies finished runners-up of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) and qualified for the Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history.
Banyana met with SAFA prior to their departure for Ghana and Sport 24 reported that SAFA president, Danny Jordaan, presented the cheque to skipper, Janine van Wyk.
SAFA confirmed the bonus was to be shared exclusively between the 21 players in the squad.
Briefly.co.za previously reported that Portia Modise will be 1 of the Women’s World Cup ambassadors so South Africa will have a strong presence at the tournament.
The tournament will be played across 9 different cities in France.
