- A young pupil was filmed hurling insults at a teacher recently
- The incident happened at a school in Krugersdorp
- Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has appointed an assessment team to look into the matter
An unsettling video has surfaced on social media showing a Grade 7 pupil hurling insults at educators.
According to News24, the incident happened at Lewisham Primary School in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, about five months ago.
In the video, the boy is seen scuffling with a male teacher as a female teacher tried to restrain him. He shouted, "Don't touch me, man. You stink. Did you bath this morning? This rubbish."
Gauteng Education MEC visited the school on Thursday to discuss the matter with the pupil's teachers and parents, Briefly.co.za learned.
He reportedly appointed an inter-departmental assessment team to compile and submit a report on the matter by 11 December.
The team includes officials from the district, the Department of Social Development, the psycho-social unit, inclusion and special schools, and education support.
Steve Mabona, a spokesperson for Gauteng's education department, said the pupil was suspended at the time and a disciplinary process recommended his expulsion. However, the team will now provide appropriate recommendations, he said.
