The launch of Uber’s own minibus service in Egypt has already caused a stir in South Africa and tweeps were quick to vent their frustration.
UberBus was launched in Cairo, Egypt recently but images of the minibus on social media got Mzansi worked up.
Many South Africans misunderstood and took to Twitter to share their concerns.
Based on the assumption that the new offering would be launched in South Africa, tweeps were of the opinion that it would create even more taxi violence.
Briefly.co.za soon gathered that people were jumping the gun as the article linked to the photo was in reference to the Egyptian launch only.
Egypt officially became the first country in the world to offer the service.
In response to the misunderstanding, Uber issued a statement via Twitter to confirm it has no plans of launching the UberBus product in South Africa.
Tweeps welcomed the clarification provided and re-iterated their stance in humorous fashion.
