- Jacob Newbern was paralysed due to a rare medical condition
- He stood up for the first time in more than a month as he immediately proposed to his girlfriend on Monday
- The footage of the eventful proposal was captured at Orange Park Medical Centre
Jacob Newbern was walking upstairs with his daughters when he nearly collapsed.
His legs felt extremely wobbly and was unable to relieve himself in the bathroom.
Newbern was soon diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome – a disease which results in the immune system attacking the nerves.
Dr Ronnie Bond, a neurologist, informed him that recovery would be a long and challenging road.
Newbern declared that he informed the doctor he planned to be walking within two months.
ABC News reported that Newbern’s recovery has been nothing short of remarkable according to Dr Bond.
Newbern, who hails from Florida in the USA, was in the process of recovery at the Orange Park Medical Centre.
The medical centre posted video footage of a surprise proposal to his long-time girlfriend, Mary Batar.
What shocked Mary even more than the proposal was the fact that Newbern revealed how he was now able to stand for the first time in more than a month.
The emotional moment has gone viral via social media.
Briefly.co.za noted that the couple have raised $2,675 through their Go fund me page.
