- The priest identified as Vyacheslav Baskakov took to his Instagram page to display his Louis Vuitton bags and Gucci shoes
- Although the photos have been taken down, it has caused major outrage among social media users
It is a common thing to see religious leaders living the extravagant lifestyles despite the controversy that usually trails them. Well, it appears Nigeria isn't the only country with religious leaders who've got proclivity for the good life.
A Russian priest, father Vyacheslav Baskakov, is currently in trouble after he took to his Instagram page to show off his designer items. Although the post has since been taken down, the screenshots of Baskakov in his frock, displaying his Louis Vuitton bags and Gucci shoes have since gone viral.
According to an Orthodox Church spokesman, Baskakov is going to face disciplinary committee."Such actions are not acceptable. The Church requires modesty and temperance of its representatives," the spokesman for Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, Alexander Volkov, revealed.
The spokesman further revealed that this was not a criminal probe and didn't give a date for any hearing nor comment on a likely punishment.
According to reports, Baskakov is not the first Church representative to cause a buzz over possession of luxury items. Patriarch Kirillleft tongues wagging when he wore what was identified as a Breguet watch that costs around 30,000 euros during a trip to Ukraine in 2009.
Although the photo of Kirill was eventually doctored on the church's website to erase his watch, many internet users were not fooled as the reflection of the watch on the table still remained.
