COPE and ToekomsVonk have become an unlikely team as Mosiuoa Lekota joined Steve Hofmeyr to press charges against BLF leader Andile Mngxitama
Mosiuoa Lekota, leader of COPE, and Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr have teamed up in an unlikely match to press charges against Andile Mngxitama.
COPE had already placed charges against the Black First Land First leader earlier this week but accompanied Hofmeyr in solidarity against Mngxitama.
The charges relate to the infamous homecoming speech by the BLF leader, where he had rallied his supporters to commit racially motivated violence against white people.
Hofmeyr was pressing charges on behalf of ToekomsVonk, a civil rights organisation. The group said earlier that if the BLF leader was not arrested within a week, they would take it as the SAPS condoning the hateful narrative.
The BLF leader and his party are drowning in mounting legal troubles, with the DA, COPE, ToekomsVonk, AfriForum and the South African Human Rights Commission taking him to Equality Court.
