The talented vocalist whose car park performance wowed South Africans recently is now a church Opera singer.

Briefly.co.za reported in October that Mapoyi Mthetho, from Cape Town, performed a stunning rendition of Nessun Dorma, a popular Opera song.

A Facebook user, Nicolene Smith, recorded Mapoyi's performance and shared it on her profile. It went viral, racking up almost half a million views so far.

In a recent update, Nicolene said a music teacher, Lizette Du Toit, got in touch with Mapoyi and has been developing his amazing talent.

Mapoyi now performs as a church Opera singer at NG Kerk in Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape. Nicolene said:

Mthetho is determined to try out other genres of music. He loves Italian, but he is hungry for more!! More knowledge about the history of music, more insight into different genres, more songs, more music... Just more of doing what he loves... Singing and making people happy!!

Nicolene is keen to help Mapoyi get someone who can kickstart his musical career. She had nothing but praise for him:

I have been thinking of words to describe Mthetho and I came up with 'Humble,' 'Appreciative,' and 'Extraordinary.'
He is not scared to work hard and deserves a second chance!! He deserves to be recognised and he deserves to be on a big stage. He'll do whatever it takes!!
