The RET Defenders have called for the ANC as well as the president to come to Jacob Zuma’s aid and assist him in paying his legal fees.
A group operating under the banner ‘RET Defenders’ (Radical Economic Transformation) has called upon the ANC as well as President Cyril Ramaphosa to lend a helping hand to former president Jacob Zuma.
Jacob Zuma has been ordered by a Pretoria High Court to personally pay his legal fees for criminal cases against him.
The RET Defenders have said that whilst they have yet to establish a trust in the former president's name, they are encouraging individuals as well as organisations to contribute.
Jacob Zuma’s legal bill is estimated to be anything from R15 to R30 million.
Nkosentle Shezi, the spokesperson for the group, said that the ANC should fund the former leader’s fees.
“ They are full of millionaires and billionaire who can just throw in that money. R10 or R30 million is easy money for Ramaphosa.”
