Mzansi's top 10 radio hits of 2018 – who got the most airplay?

While the digital drive cannot be ignored, a singer’s performance on radio is still a key marker for success. looks at the 10 songs which were played by South African radio stations the most.

Going by the most played songs list, local artists can be proud of their performance in 2018.

A number of Mzansi’s artists made the top 10 and a host of others featured in the top 30.

In fact, South Africa’s own Lady Zamar ranks as number 1 on the list with her hit single, Collide.

The list was revealed by Radio Monitor for the period 01 January – 08 December 2018.

As ex-Idols contestant, Shekinah, pointed out, the female singers did particularly well this year.

Shekinah had 2 songs feature in the top 10 with Suited and Please Mr.

Prince Kaybee’s hit, Club Controller, came in at number 2 on the list and Kwesta made it 5 on the list for Mzansi.

A few years ago, the SABC proposed that radio stations play a minimum of 90% local music.

Based on this year’s performance, this may be more of a natural progression as music fans demand more and more locally produced hits.
