Living in a poor township has so many challenges and even more so for Tameron Nel.
Tameron lives in Missionvale in Port Elizabeth, a township housing some of the poor. Born with cerebral palsy, Tameron, 12-years-old, has an extraordinary amount of passion for life. Alrie Velleman and Zara Schoeman, are friends that have the same desire for triathlon and happen to meet Tammy. They were taken aback by Tammy’s absolute joyful nature.
The girl’s sense of compassion kicked in and they decided to devote their race for the Ironman 5150 Triathlon to Tammy. Their aim is to raise R32 000 to cover the cost of an electric wheelchair to make Tammy’s life a little easier, according to goodguythings.
The next race they do will be dedicated to raise the R12 000 they still need. Even though they have set a target they are confident that they will exceed this and have money over to assist with an education fund for Tammy.
Briefly.co.za learnt that the two girls say they run simple because they can. On the occasions that they do get tired they remember those who would give anything to be able to have the ability to run.
Tammy was 9 when the healthcare workers at the Missionvale Care Centre unit met her. The centre is for orphaned and vulnerable children. Having not attended school and living with her grandmother, the Care Centre took Tammy in.
With the help of Sister Annemarie van der Merwe, Tammy was enrolled at the Northern Lights School. It was like a duck taking to water, Tammy blossomed. She has such a love for learning and math is her favourite subject. Tammy has a dream of becoming a doctor one day.
These two good Samaritans, Alrie and Zara are very busy training for the Ironman 70.3, which takes place on January 2019.
