- A newborn baby was recently found alive floating in a plastic bag in the Muizenberg sea
- He was rescued, taken to hospital, and is currently doing well
- A local well-wisher was able to marshal donations for the baby
A newborn baby was found miraculously alive floating in a plastic bag in the Muizenberg Sea, Cape Town, about two weeks ago.
A woman, named only as Jamsine to protect her identity, was walking along Sunrise Beach when she noticed a green plastic bag floating in the water.
Being environmentally conscious, she moved to pick it up and relocate it to a proper dumping area. She was however surprised when she noticed a baby in it, Good Things Guy reports.
A startled Jasmine screamed for help. A nearby fisherman phoned emergency services, who then took the baby to Mowbray Maternity Hospital.
The police opened a case of child abandonment. Social workers are also planning the miracle baby's future, Briefly.co.za learned.
The local community has come together to donate baby clothes and other items for the newborn. Janet Perrot, who marshalled the donations, said:
Well I was bowled over by the response!!! Beautiful new outfits for a baby, lots of nappies and so many baby grows.
One of the Baby grows has the words in the front saying, 'Be Brave Little One.' How special is that! Also fluffy teddy bears arrived as well. In fact I am thrilled there is enough now for all 4 abandoned babies.
