The Steve Biko Memorial Centre is based in King William’s Town.

The Centre stands proudly at the top of a hill as one enters the township of Ginsberg.

Launched on 30th November 2012, it serves to promote heritage, history and culture.

It memorialises the key role the Black Consciousness Movement played in the liberation of South Africa.

One of the key objectives is to educate the public on Biko’s leadership and the role he played in democracy.

The Centre also strives to increase the capacity of various community-based organisations.

Biko was tortured to death in 1977 but will always be remembered for his leadership of the Black Consciousness Movement.
