Lobby group AfriForum has revealed that advocate Gerrie Nel and the group's Private Prosecution Unit will privately prosecute ex-minister Fikile Mbalula, should the NPA fail to hold him accountable.

Briefly.co.za reported yesterday that Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane had found that the minister had violated the constitution.

This was in relation to a R680 000 Dubai vacation the former sports minister had enjoyed in 2016 which had been funded by Sedgars, a sports apparel retail group.

Mbalula had maintained that he had entered into a ‘loan agreement’ with the director of the company, Yusuf Dockrat.

Monique Taute from AfriForum has said that the organisation had referred the case to the NPA to determine if the trip had been funded by the profits of money laundering. Taute urged the NPA to consider whether the conduct constituted corruption.
