In 2018, several hijackings were caught on video going spectacularly wrong. Briefly.co.za lists four attempted hijackings that left the criminals with absolutely nothing to show for it.

1. The brave mother who rammed her car against the hijackers'

In September, armed hijackers followed an unnamed mom and her daughter all the way to their house.

As the mom opened their gate and drove in, the hijackers followed and threatened them with guns. However, they refused to open their car doors.

As if that wasn't enough, the brave mother reversed and rammed her car into the hijackers' car. She eventually forced them to flee on foot.

2. High-speed reverse manoeuvre foils hijacking

CCTV footage showed armed hijackers waylaying a would-be victim in Blairgowrie, Johannesburg.

However, they got more than they bargained for when the motorist reversed at high speed, hitting their car and leaving it mangled at the back.

3 Fightback stuns thugs

A group of thugs was seen in CCTV footage trying to mug a couple in their driveway in April. However, the couple was having none of it.

They smashed the thugs' car in high-speed reverse mode before driving away. They weren't done — they drove back a few seconds later and literally rammed the hijackers off the road.

4. Failed smash-and-grab attempt

A group of robbers thought they would have it easy as a motorist drove into a residential complex in Morningside, Johannesburg, in October.

They were seen attempting to smash the car's window with a metallic object. To their utter disbelief, they window simply didn't break, forcing them to retreat in abject failure.
