2018 was a year of highs and lows for South Africa. One of the most shocking and saddening moments of the year was when news broke about the death of Akhumzi Jezile - a young man that will never be forgotten.

Early in 2018, South Africans were devastated by the untimely death of a legend in the making.

Akhumzi Jezile passed away in a tragic car accident that left a gaping hole in the heart of South Africa.

A sense of intense loss fell over South Africa when the news first broke, and it hasn't really left. This young man had such an impact on so many lives that even months later, his loss is still felt most acutely.

Akhumzi will never be forgotten. Our hearts and spirits will forever carry his name, engraved and shining like a diamond.

When the news of the accident was first shared, tributes came pouring in, flooding social media with sadness and heartfelt condolences.

The fatal accident claimed 5 lives that horrible day, as reported on by Briefly.co.za earlier. Among those that were ripped from us were Akhumzi, news anchor Thobani Mseleni and singer/actress Siyasanga Kobese. The other two victims' identities have not been revealed.

There is no denying that this young man earned his place in millions of hearts and he was, and still is, dearly loved.

While so many hearts still sing the song of his name, he will never be forgotten and left in the past.

Akhumzi's most admirable trait was his unconditional care for others. He will be fondly remembered for his big heart and equally big smile.
