The ruling parties study group in the Joint Constitutional Review Committee has denounced the FF+ Chief Whip Corne Mulder’s comment that the committee in charge of the reform process was a disgrace.

The Chief Whip claimed that the entire process has been flawed and manipulated.

The committee had essentially suggested in its report that amendments be made to Section 25 of the constitution in order to allow for land to be expropriated without compensation.

The NCOP as well as the National Assembly had giving the committee’s report and recommendations the green light earlier in December.

Vincent Smith, ANC Member of the Committee, who was co-chaired during provincial public hearings commented that Mulder’s stance on the matter came as no surprise to him.

He commented that the ruling party fundamentally disagrees with the FF+ that the process had been a sham and argued that the party had negative comments due to the fact that they had opposed land expropriation since its conception.

Smith maintains that the process had been fair, transparent and will pass constitutional muster.
