Shealen Chetty treated Durban motorists to a memorable marriage proposal on Saturday.

On a section of the N2 highway, he mounted banners with red, blue and white balloons on the bridges.

The message was clear – he aimed to take Govender’s breath away as he asked her to be his wife.

Chetty timed the proposal for the trip as it is the only time of the year that Govender’s whole family are together.

IOL reported that Govender was under the impression she was on her way to a breakfast with her sisters when she noticed the first banner.

She shared, “When I saw the first banner with my name on it I was shocked and nervous and excited all at the same time.”

The second banner soon followed with the caption: “Will you marry us?”

Govender then saw Chetty at the next off-ramp down on bended knee.

He was accompanied by his beloved BMW and pet puppy, York.

York had a sign tied around him saying, “Say yes Momma!”

Govender duly agreed and her family joined the couple to celebrate with champagne.

Chetty revealed he drove to the location early in the morning to place the banners and the balloons.

He added that he planned to surprise his fiancé with a surprise engagement party later the same day.
