Social media is often our portal to the rest of the world. Sometimes, it shows the ugly and nasty, but other times it shows the brave and inspirational. When a man and his family were saved by a metro patrolling officer, he had to share their story.
Social media user, Dean Reddy, shared his story of meeting an 'earth-angel'. He and his family were on the N2 when they were pelted by rocks thrown by a group of people.
Dean lost control of his vehicle when one of the tyres burst, but fortunately managed to steer the vehicle off the road.
He and his family feared robbery or an attack but a patrolling metro officer came to their rescue.
Here's the rest of Dean's story in his own words:
I was aware of the immediate danger of robbery and possible physical harm, which did present itself within minutes. Much to my undying gratitude Warren Jili stopped and offered to stay with me until I was safely away. Warren is a "Metro highway patrolman" who was acutely aware of the danger we were in. Using his own cellphone he arranged Kasiboys who finally towed us away after 2 hours. He only left when the tow-truck was well on it's way.
Warren, you are a bastion of hope in this dark and cruel world. Thank You a zillion times!
Warren is truly the kind of person that South Africans are at the core. We salute you, Warren!
Here's what other Facebook users had to say:
Sandra Boshoff-Booysen - What a hero
Grizaan Van Rensburg - A true South African with a heart
Sharon Rudy - So good to hear these positive stories coming through. Well done and glad you are safe
Marion Potgieter - Salute, Warren Jili. Your job is fraught with risk, so please stay safe.
Kobus Botha - Warren you are an angel sent by God. Thank you for this!! I do feel you have done this before. Thank you and God bless.
