- Priven Reddy came from Chatsworth, an Indian township in KZN
How does a carguard from Chatsworth become a billionaire CEO and international tech-sensation? With hard work, creativity and a touch of genius, of course. At least, that is the story of Kagiso Interactive founder and CEO, Priven Reddy.
Kagiso Interactive developed Krypteu, a technology designed to advance the emerging cryptocurrency trading market by using AI to trade on the user’s behalf.
But before the expensive suits and TV appearances, Reddy’s life was an all too familiar story of a young boy growing up in a poor township with his mother and his mother’s alcoholic partner.
Regardless, Reddy never let circumstance get the better of him and always remembered the values his late father had instilled in him and his siblings, all of whom are now entrepreneurs.
“My father was a hardworking, honest man, who taught me the importance of working for your dreams from an early age. He instilled in me the values he consistently displayed throughout his life,” says Reddy.
Reddy’s innovative spirit persisted throughout his childhood, starting in his primary school days, when he seized an opening and took over the school’s tuckshop.
“I borrowed some money and bought bags of chips and chocolates and sweets from a local wholesaler. I started at the back of the queue and sold to the kids one by one all the way down the line. I sold out quickly and made more profit than the tuck shop vendors because I didn’t have any overheads.”
It is this indomitable spirit of South Africans that will ensure that our communities continuously grow and overcome. Priven Reddy is not just one reminder of the brilliant minds that are being overshadowed by poverty, but a reminder that it is possible to overcome circumstance and succeed beyond expectations
