When it comes to bright minds and mental prowess, South Africans do not have to take a back seat to anyone else in the world. Mzansi has incredibly smart and talented young people to boast with - like Siya, the engineer with an asteroid named after him.
South African talents can often be under-appreciated and that is a big mistake, as we have so many bright young (and older) minds to be proud of.
One such bright spark is Siya Xuza, an energy-engineer who also happens to have an entire small planet named after him.
Briefly.co.za gathered from a report by thejournalist.org.za that Nasa-affiliated Lincoln Laboratory named a minor planet after Siya, which is now known as Siyaxuza, which is found in the main asteroid belt near Jupiter.
He was given this honour after he won a gold medal at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair in America.
This South African is also the founder and Managing Director of Galactic Energy Ventures; an investment holding company focused on creating global opportunities through smart energy by developing and investing in innovative solutions to address the energy needs of emerging markets.
Siya did research on micro fuel cells at Harvard Center for Nanoscale Systems as well as MIT Microsystems Technology Laboratories.
In 2011, he served as the youngest member of the African Union – affiliated Africa 2.0 Energy Advisory Panel and was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Global Shaper.
This is indeed one South African to be proud of and to keep an eye on - he's destined for greatness.
